| Green Tea: Probably the most popular tea in China. It is best drunk in hot summers as it is very cooling. The tea should be brewed in water of a temperature at 80-90°C. The finest teas are picked between April 4-6th, known as 'Pure Brightness' and also at 'Grain Rain' between April 19-21st. | |

China produces the widest range of excellent quality teas in the World. China has the earliest records of tea drinking, dating back to the 1st Millennium BC. For a long time tea was used as herbal medication. It was not until the Tang dynasty (618-907 A.D.) that tea as a drink became popular. In 1610 tea arrived in Europe via the European traders, encouraging tea to become an international drink. Find out more about the History of Tea Geography Jiangnan Region: Lying South of the lower end of the Yangtze River is China's most prolific tea producing region. Most tea produced here is green but black tea is also produced. Jiangbei Region: This is north of the Yangtze and has a slightly cooler air temperature. Green tea is mainly produced here. Yunnan Region: Produces black tea as well as green. Pu-erh tea comes from the Yunnan province. Lingnan Region: Produces Oolong tea. |
