| Commercial production of tea started in India in the
1830's. It began in order to allow Britain to have high quality black teas
without needing to trade with China. Assam Tea: The jungles of Assam was the birthplace of Indian tea. The tea is full-bodied with a malty rich flavour. Darjeeling Tea: Lying at the foothills of the Himalayas, Darjeeling tea is now regarded as one of the most prestigious teas in the World, with its unique taste and character. First flush teas have an astringent flavour, whereas second flush teas have a gentler taste. Nilgiri: The largest tea-producing region in South India. These teas have a wonderful mellow taste. |
