| Rooibos (Red Bush Tea) is a
member of the legume family of plants. The leaves are fermented to
produce the distinctive reddish colour. The tea has been popular in South
Africa for many years but it is not until recently that the tea has become
well-known world-wide. The tea is high in antioxidants and is naturally free of caffeine and reputed to calm and soothe. The tea should be brewed with boiling water and allowed to steep for around 5 - 7 minutes, giving a deep red to orange colour. Rooibos can be taken without milk or sugar, however in South Africa, it is commonly served with both. The natural flavour is of a fruity sweet taste. |
